Types of Competitions

Open Competition: You must be a resident, full-time employee, or full-time student at a college or university in Maryland.

Closed Competition: You must be a resident of the specified area, full-time employee in the specified area, or full-time student in a college or university located in the specified area.

College Competition: You must be a full-time student at the listed college or university.

30% Private Interview
20% Fitness
20% Talent
20% Evening Wear
10% On Stage Question

Multi Night State Competition Scoring – Preliminary Night Scoring:

30% Private Interview
20% Fitness
20% Talent

10% On Stage Question

Final Night Scoring (Multi Night Competition):

30% Composite Score

Teen Eligibility Update! (Updated 8/1/2024)

The Miss America Organization announced an increase in eligibility for teens interested in competing for Miss Maryland’s Teen next summer. Young women who are 18 prior to state competition, at her option, may elect to compete for either Miss Maryland or Miss Maryland’ Teen.

Teen: Must be 14-18 at the state competition
Miss: Must be 18-27 at the state competition

Important Note: Only an incoming freshman can be awarded the scholarship to the University of Alabama per the University. If you are an 18 year old teen who has already attended your first year of college (not counting dual enrollment classes) you are eligible to compete for the title but at this time you would be ineligible to receive the scholarship awarded by the University of Alabama.
